Tri-Cirlce 264 Help

Postby Sewer21 » 11 Feb 2009 12:04

I am trying to pick a tri-circle 264 with no luck. Are there security pins in it? Seems to me like there shouldn't be because I can shim it easily. Any help would be great.

Hi, the only thing I could find that might be of any help is a video on YouTube;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krKEH5UK ... re=related
Read the comments on that video and someone states some have security pins and some don't but there are no other details.
You can search yourself for another video on there. They use comb picks on the same lock and since comb picks are bypass tools I believe that subject matter is for the advanced section only.

And according to the manufacturing specs all I could find was this;

Features Specifications: Thick Type Polished Brass Padlock
High Security
High Anti-theft
High Level Manufacturer

I hope that helps somewhat.

Why have security pins if it can be shimmed in seconds? Is that normal?

correct me if Im wrong,
the job of the secuity pins is to prevent lockpicking (but you can still pick them) When you use a shim to open a padlock, you are bypassing the mechanism of the lock, you are not in contact with the plug pins.

It depends on how you are shimming. If you are shimming the shackle, then no, it wouldn't matter. If you are shimming the pin stacks from the face of the lock then maybe, but it still shouldn't matter much.

Shims are bypass tools as well. Read the information on these two links: http://www.lockpickshop.com/SPS-20.html

Well it seems to me that if you are going to put security pins in a lock you are trying to make it secure. It seems silly to me that they would make it so easy to shim the shackle while putting so much effort into the pin and tumbler. Is this normal?

If the lock has security pins Im pretty sure that there is a device to ''crush'' the shim when you try to insert it (this device may look like a ball). If you can shim your lock then probably you don't have any security pins in it. Can you feel when the lock creates a false set? If no then you probably don't have any spool pins in it.

laf, I'm pretty sure that that devise that crushes the edges of the shim is you, getting the shim into the spool pin rather than the shearline :lol:

Oops, shim, thats two things, one made for the locking dogs of padlocks and the other is a locksmiths tool for dissasembling the cylinder. I shoulda read the previous posts.
suggest that terminology could be p shim, and c shim, padlock and cylinder
