Before I knew better (and found this forum ), I purchased a Kwikset SmartKey deadbolt for a closet I constructed. The package said it was ANSI Grade 1 and that it had "Bump Guard". In visiting our local locksmith to have a file cabinet key cut by code, he recommended the Master Bump Stop lock. In reading this forum, I have read how the only part of the Kwikset SmartKey that is Grade 1 is the bolt and that they are delicate locks. I have also read that the Master Bump Stop can actually be bumped. So, is either one of them a reasonable solution, or do I have to go to a Bilock or Abloy (at much greater cost)? I haven't used the Kwikset, so I can still return it (I think). Thanks, Craig

Is the door otherwise secure ? Are the hinge pins knocked out easily ? Is the door and frame solid ?
If you really need a secure lock at a lower price, you could try Ebay. Sometimes you see used ones with one key and no code card for less money.

The Master Bump Stop lock is a nice product and far more difficult to bump than others available.
The Kwikset is bump proof, although there are bypasses for it, that make it easy to break through.
The Kwikset's can be defeated with minimal (invisible) damage, that will not affect the lock operation.
Bilock deadbolts are significantly cheaper than Abloy or various other brands. Bilock (factory) just release a super special deadbolt (using old Lori stock deadbolts) for very reasonable prices. (under $75, list)
One One was a race horse, one one won one race, one two was a racehorse, one two won one too.

Most definitely. It's a 1-3/4" solid core door (very heavy). The hinge pins (on the outside, since the door opens out) are not removable. I hand hung the door directly into 2x4 framing, doubled 2x4s on the hinge side with #10 screws 3-1/2" holding the hinges on, a single, reinforced 2x4 on the lock side. If you really need a secure lock at a lower price, you could try Ebay. Sometimes you see used ones with one key and no code card for less money.
I looked there and am not sure I would trust buying a lock in that venue. The Master Bump Stop lock is a nice product and far more difficult to bump than others available.

Thank you for the comments. Sounds like the Kwikset is definitely a mixed bag. I've been thinking about the feasibility of machining one of my existing Schlage deadbolts to insert a custom top pin like the Master Bump Stop's. If I had ready access to a lathe and a mill, I'd be all over it. In coming back to the lockpicking101 website, I noticed I posted my question in the wrong topic. Sorry.

What is the name of the newly released deadbolt from Bilock? I don't see it on their site.

You must be either storing guns and ammunition or a whole lot of money or a bunch of sweatshop workers because I don't think i've ever heard of anyone wanting that type of security on a closet.

Bilock do not sell direct to the end user.....you are required to purchase from a dealer. That is why there wont be a listing on their website.

Shortly after I bought my first house, someone broke into the garage and then, out of sight, used my own tools to break into my house. Ever since then, I've wanted to keep my tools secure. Where I am now, it's difficult to have them in the house, so ... Anyway, I know it's a huge leap between a Kwikset SmartKey and an Abloy. I was just asking if I needed to make that leap to get a reliable, bump-proof lock or if there were some other way.
