"Slightly Blemished" question

Postby apb » 13 Mar 2009 18:28

I've purchased a couple sets form the southord outlet with the addage of slightly blemished. The MXPS-32 was among these and, while I admit its a lot of picks and more than you need, I thought it was a good deal. I could not find anything on these that was wrong with them. Most of the posts I've read people have had no complaints.

I just was wondering about any of you out there who have ordered from Southord and purchased sets from their outlet and have actually seen any of these blemished products and if its noticeable or if there were any other deficiencies you saw and what were they. So far the outlet is my first pick for buying sets form SO because there's never really been anything that looked real bad.

I have bought many "blemished" sets. None were blemished that I can see.

The "blemished" jackknife I bought from Southord had one miniscule scratch on it which was covered up with worse scratches the first time I put it in my pocket.

I'm talking about their outlet store on their website. I looked at it before posting this and was looking at the comparison between their blemished sets and new sets. For example, the MXPS-32 is thirty bucks cheaper if you buy it out of the outlet rather than a new set. Thats a big chunk of change. I can't see the real reason to buy any of their new sets so far because the blemish issue seems so petty.

I heard once that you could buy "Refurbished" computers and monitors from the DELL website, and in these tough times my theory is that this is brand new stuff and has never been refurbished, but they sell it this way to at least sell some product, because most people can't pass up what they see as a great deal, and I'm sure Dell still makes a couple bucks on each computer or monitor sold this way.

Perhaps Southord is just trying to push product out the door when they stamp out too many sets or have a new model coming out and want to diminish their inventory, so they sell it for 10% markup instead of the usual 50%-150% markup and the wheels of commerce keep on turning.

just my opinion.

I think you nailed it squelchtone. Besides, who doesn't love a little conspiracy theory now and again? And besides that it makes the most sense.

If you think about it, you'll probably have to sand your Southord picks anyway to take off the sharp stamped metal edges...so you might as well buy the "blemished" sets anyway and save some cash.

Agreed, a blemished set (scratches and sutch) doesn't really provide a problem if you put a little effor in to refurhishing them. Besides, your new picks will "blemish" over time anyway ;)
