Where do I buy pins?

Postby devicenull » 2 Apr 2009 20:14

So, to start out I bought a kwikset deadbolt. While I was taking it apart to temporarily remove some of the pins I ended up losing one of them. Is there a place I can buy them, preferably not online? Will any decent locksmith sell them to me?

I would like to think they would. Should be no big deal. Get a couple of different lengths so you can play with different combinations of pins.

The other possibility is to get one of the do it yourself re-key kits. I have seen them at Home Depot type places. Fairly cheap.

Lockies usually toss old pins and keys into a bin and sell the brass as scrap, you could check with the scrap dealers as well. I recently took in 105 lbs of old locks, pins and keys and I have another 60 or so lbs to go

If you have a Home Depot near you just go to the area where they rekey locks /duplicate keys.
They most likely have a bucket with used pins/ springs ect , just ask the clerk for a few .
