Quick question - picking a hard lock

Postby contortion » 1 Apr 2009 15:08

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. I have been picking for a little while but I have a couple locks that are giving me a hard time. One is a Master Lock Contractors grade. I can set the pins but one of them seems to set really high. I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks!

Well, if the lock is to hard try microwaving it for a few minutes. That should soften it up a bit........ :P

Seriously though, what is the model number of the lock you are having trouble with? There are so many models of master locks for specific help we need to know which one you are dealing with.

He says he can set the pin, with a newbie, and I don't know if he is one, the concept seems to be you poke at the pins and get heavier and heavier on the tension until the pins don't drop back down.

I would recommend that he pick in a room lit only by the tv and not go looking into the lock to decide if a pin is set, but just reset the tension frequently dropping the pins down to 0 and keeping most of his attention on the tv while using gentle probing on the lock. Call it tv zen, takes your mind off the frustrating focus, stops you trying to figure it out an lets you listen to what the situation is teaching.
If you have a preconcieved notion of what your trying to do, it will screw up what the situation is trying to tell you.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
