I picked up an old Sentry floor safe for free off of Craigslist a couple weeks back, with the hopes that I could get some practice manipulating locks and also get a free working safe out of the deal. The person I got it from said it hadn't been used in years and had no idea what the combination was. It looks very similar to the old Sentry 1330/1380 fire resistant safes, though it doesn't actually have a model number anywhere on it. I didn't find any contact points just from spinning the dial which led me to believe that it is direct-entry. That, along with the false gates, has made the project a bit daunting from the get-go (especially since the handle is cheap plastic and has a lot of give).
However, the biggest surprise for me was that, no matter how many times I tried, I could only hear two wheels. It's possible that I'm doing something wrong, or that direct entry locks don't sound the same way, but for the life of me I can only hear the two.
So my question is this: Is it possible that Sentry made a 1300 series safe with only a two-number combination? Or do direct-entry locks just sound different when you're counting wheels in the wheel pack?
