Magnets and Keys

Postby MisterM » 24 Jun 2009 0:17

Hey everyone,

I'm new here and know absolutely nothing about locks/keys and what have you. I am in need of your expert advice. This is a weird question. I am an entertainer (magician, sort of) and for one of my routines I need a key that is made of a metal that would be attracted to a magnet (steel etc.). It has to be a type of key that would be able to open a basic padlock.

All of the keys I have been able to find that can be cut to open a padlock, have only been made from metals that magnets are not attracted to. Any ideas where I could get such a key?

Thanks in advance!

It probably depends on where are you from.
Here in France, you can find steel key for padlocks easily. Maybe you should try to ask your local locksmith what blank keys for padlock he has made of steel.

good luck

Buy a Master padlock number 9,10,12,22, 105,116,119,450,500,510,517 or 518. They are warded padlocks and all have steel keys.

Drill a hole in whatever key you want to use a magnet on, then put a disc magnet in the hole and epoxy it there, paint or plate the key to hide the magnet, Show the mark a different key, (basic palming)
