Hi guys, i'm start beginning to pick for two weeks now. And it's kind of frustrated. The lock that i'm picking now is the master lock six pin, padlock model 970PDF. Thank you. [/img]

learning to pick on a commerical trailer lock probably isn't best ... get a dead bolt and start with digital_blue's guide...

I think the 970 models have security pins in them. I would recommend starting on a Kwikset deadbolt as well, but not the new SmartKey Kwiksets.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

On the up side props to you for sticking at it for 2 weeks with no luck yet.
If you can open that lock up and get to the pins it might be worth taking it down to one pin and having a go with it. it sounds like you have the right attitude to persevere. May as well give it a go as you already have one.
Also try picking it out of the lock as i think they have a spring that turns the plug back, although i could be wrong there.
Good luck to you
John

I have to honestly say.... if *I'd* have had no success after two weeks of trying when I first took this up, I'd have given up without question.
Indeed... start with a simpler lock with no security pins. Go through the Beginner Lock Picking Exercise stickied in the PickFu section. Then... be one with the lock.

A No. 3 Master padlock would be a good addition to the kwikset deadbolt too. Only four pin stacks and no security drivers. Most can be opened by raking after a bit of practice.

But db, when I started picking the only lock I had was a seven pin trioving with seven wierd spool hull pins, it took me two weeks, then I accidentally locked it again when I was trying to take the circlip off to take some of the pins out... I nearly cried...

Before you pick a lock:
The first thing that you should do is check to make sure that
the lock is your's and secondly make sure its not in use.

I see no reason why you can't bump that lock. But it does appear like you are just trying to "bypass" this particular lock at a particular location and not here to learn to pick as a hobby/legal profession.
Posting semi- nonsense in VERY old threads goes a long way against you- unless you have something very good to say... So, you may want to stop dragging up old threads.

Light feather tension is required to pick security pins like the spool pins and the best learning locks are cheap bike locks and cheap padlocks. If you feel the lock fighting against you, or wanting to go back to its lock position, you have a security pin.
