I am knew to this site but not to lockpicking as i have been a novice lockpicker since purchasing my first set @ about age 13 ( im now 34) n e ways my skill has always mainly lied within padlocks. My question is that though, I had recently learned of the bumping craze mainly due to its simplicity I became interested and made a few good keys. I have been bumping pretty easy but I have been having trouble with a simple lock on my garage door which is a deadbolt lock with the same style & make of a kwikset but its called a BHP and I just cant bump it! I have tried numerous times. any answers? thanxs guys.

I recommend you put a new lock on your garage and remove the old lock as a practice lock. Take it apart and clean it inside. Make sure everything is working, then bump away.

It really does do some damage inside the lock if you keep beating away at it. There are a couple of excellent posts here about the damage and marks left inside a lock from picking or bumping repeatedly. Like the guys say, you really don't want to bump this thing if you are going to be using it.

This often leads to the posts about "I picked/bumped my lock and now it won't work with the key"

is it pin tumbler? a lot of those garage locks are wafer types and this type is not susceptable to bumping as there are no top pins to bounce.

With the obvious (don't pick locks in use or rely on) you may want to take in consideration the rebound effect of the garage door itself. It moves and therefore doesn't make the lock very stable and still while bumping.

Is the lock part of a T or L handle? If so it's a wafer lock. If it is stand alone and part of the door, it is probably a pin tumbler lock (and more specifically a rim cylinder). Should bump or pick like any other pin tumbler lock if that's the case, but like everyone else said as a hobbyist don't pick locks you don't mind breaking.
