Resetting a tubular lock

Postby Mobius » 23 Jul 2009 14:43

I apologize in advance if this isn't where to post this...

Lost the key to a tubular lock on my tow hitch. I was in the middle of picking it, turning the cylinder when my fingers slipped and the lock froze... how can I reset the notch to re-pick it? When I apply tension in an attempt to pop the pins, I get one done but move to the next and hear it click back into place.

It looks like this. :(

Thanks for your help.

Nevermind, I guess this is how it is with tubular locks... I just read that when you pick it and turn it 1/6th-1/8th (in this case 1/7th) the pin falls into the next hole and you have to do it all over again... I guess manually picking it is pretty hard. I'll have to try the pen cap idea.

Tubular locks are considered advanced, and the best suggestion I have for you is to call a locksmith.
