Hi,
I hve been pickingcylinder locks for a while and have gotten somewhat good at it. I decided to try my hand at tubular locks, so I did what everyone else who is serious about this stuff does: I went out and got a SouthOrd 7 pin tubular lock pick. I was so excited to try this new pick when I got it. I watched lots of youtube videos, read descriptions, and thought I had a pretty good understanding. apparently i was wrong.
I have had my pick for over a week and have not been able to pick a single tubular lock. I had no idea what I was doing wrong, since everything I did was the same as I had seen it in the videos. Confused, I decided to buy a basic tubular cam lock and try that. The pick still didn't work, so I took the lock apart to see what the problem was.
After disassembling the lock, I realized the problem with the pick is the hole inside the tube is not deep enough, and the middle late of the lock is bottoming out in my pick before it can ush the pins down deep enough to unlock it. I realized this because the key that came with the lock reaches the verry bottom of the inner lock, while the SouthOrd pick comes up 2 or 3 mm short.
If I drill into the pick with the correct size drill bit, will this fix my problem? I wanted to ask around here before attempting this myself since it will destroy the pick if this is not the correct solution. If anyone else has come across this problem, or can offer me a solution, I would be very grateful.
Cheers
