US Lock ?

Postby LocksmithArmy » 12 Oct 2009 23:03

I need some infor on the US Lock company.

I came across a rather large box villed with laminated locks. master and us lock.

I have seen us locks alot but only in older locks and they are replaced by the exact same type lock but from the master company

I have a sneaking suspicion that master is us lock... but I would like some clerification.

thanks guys

Master DGs have US stamped on the side of them. Could that be it? You have any pictures handy?

I searched and got a security product wholesale company and they have some "US LOCK" brand items on there. I don't know if they manufacture them themselves or contract them through other companies and have their name put on them but they have a bunch of different brands of locks it looks like. mhweaver the US on the DG I sent you means it was manufactured for the use of the government. The American locks the military use are stamped either US or US SET depending on the model. The military loves to put US on stuff. Like my sea bag and gas mask and all sorts of other stuff manufactured to mil-spec.

That's to reduce theft, a lot of big companies do that. It's a lot harder to sell stuff with a brand name stamped on it.

Cheers :)

The only difference between these 2 locks is about 20 years...

they are from the same place who has been ordering the same locks forever.

Yeah that looks like the padlock I saw on that US lock website. They look to me to pretty much just distribute locks and accessories. Most of the stuff I saw on their site that was branded as US Lock either looked cheap or it looked like a rebranded lock depending on the model.

Ive been to their website trying to find the company who made the locks I see but that website seems to just be a distributor of many manufacturers.

I just assumed that the company that made the us locks in no more and the name was taken by that manyfacturing company... I was hoping someone had some imenst knwledge of the history or somthing... oh well thanks

US Lock is a distributor. Other manufacturers make the products and label them for USL. Don't know if Masterlock makes the particular padlock you're referring to, but I'm fairly certain the key dimensions are the same. They do have some grade 3 locks (Builders' grade [cheap]), but they also have a really decent grade two line of products, suitable for residential and light commercial applications.
