Kwikset locks new type

Postby sugurfoot » 18 Oct 2009 21:50

I re keyed another one of the newer Kwikset door knobs and I pushed my follower thru a coupl pins and springs fell out As I looked at the back I saw that it tapered and I had used a wrong follower. But I fixed it all and when I went to replace the body back in the handle I knew the back was different but I thought you just pushed it back in like the old ones. I got one in and the other I couldn't, I didnt see what I did different to the first one but I wasnt going to convince the second one to go in, and it didn't. What is the trick to putting them back?

Turn the cylinder upside down. Make sure the spring is in the chamber. Insert the driver into the chamber (best done with tweezers) and slide the follower toward the pin to hold it in place. Push the pin the rest of the way into the chamber while continuing the pressure on the follower.

What I was asking about was getting the lock back in the knob? It dosen't have the 2 flat springs I was used too but 2 flat tabs that has a wire connecting them. I can't get these to go back. Or rather I don't know the proper way because I did get a couple of them to go in but then the next one dosen't and I don't know what I did different. Also what model number do we call this newer type lock. You notice the end where you remove the "C" clip is tapered? Does the require a special follower? I tried one I used on deadbolts and that caused the top pin to fall so I found one I could slip over the taper and when I pushed it went thru ok.
