FB200 Jaws--Any methods to improve the vise/jaws?

Postby casey_diamond » 9 Jul 2009 7:29

I rigged my FB200 as a back-up code cutter, using what is (I think) an innovative method. I'll post it soon, with video demonstration.

Before I do that, I was wondering if anyone knows of of way to improve the minimalist (and pretty crappy) jaws? I've bumped into too many keys that simply can't be clamped well in the Foley Belsaw.

Ideas?

TIA!

I use a straightened paper clip in the groove for keys that give me problems. It seems to keep the key where it is supposed to be.

I sometimes use thin strips of spring steel between the key and vice.. This may sound odd but I have less trouble with the FB200 jaws than I do the HPC Blitz.

Strips of bicycles inner tube will keep blanks in place.
(and are cheap)

Try brass shim stock. It holds well, but won't wreak havoc on your cutting wheel when you inadvertently cut it.
