padlock jig for drilling

Postby Rickthepick » 28 Jan 2010 9:27

Is there anyone that manufactures a jig to steady padlocks whilst drilling?

Iv seen a few hockey puck ones but they dont pose the problem its the loose fitting ones that are a pain.

Not really a fan of slipping off and piercing my hand

I have this one http://www.lockpicks.com/padlockdrilljig.aspx with this attachment http://www.lockpicks.com/padlockdrillguide.aspx .

Takes a little practice to get used to it cos it's kind of a "universal" padlock drill jig but I used it a few times out in the field (cos I had such a bad padlock picking record from my view point) and I was glad I had it. Really helped to prevent the drill bit from hopping around everywhere and landing on my hand.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Could someone explain to me why it is even necessary to drill a padlock? 43 years as a locksmith and I've never drilled even one. There are so many other DE methods that are faster, safer, and easier than to hold a padlock in your hand and drill it. I haven't run into a padlock yet that I couldn't zap open quickly with a Dremel.

I know it doesn't take much imagination to figure out how to get past a padlock, but this is still DE discussion in the open forum, so...
