ACE II Picked with KLOM

Postby JonathanEricLopez » 3 Mar 2010 1:28

I've managed to pick this lock two times and now I have noticed that the second time I picked it I somehow managed to mess up the pins inside (rendering the original key useless) I took a closer look in the tubular lock and realized that the top pin (Pin closest to where you would insert the key, I'm not sure if this would be called a top or bottom pin?) was missing... What could I have managed to do to make this happen? Could the pin switch over to another stack in the tubular lock? I'm just clueless on how it happened... Please understand I have just started up tubular picking and I'm quite new to the thing. Although with normal lock picking that's a different story. I don't really care much for the tubular lock as it was just a salvaged one I just want to know what I can do to prevent this from happening from other tubular locks.... Please do also understand that the ACE II was a pretty darn hard lock to pick as well :) But I accomplished that task but wasn't so lucky on the second try :(.

some tubular locks, when picked with a tool that can be removed in any position, unlike the key which has an indexing tab to make sure its all the way in, (that little flag that sticks out from the key and rides under the outer rim that holds the pins in,
If the cylinder is turned with a pick, and the pick is removed without turning the core of the lock back to the locked position, can leave a pin in the area where the cut to allow insertion of this key flag part and on some locks, this area is large enough to let a pin fall out when its left there, It doesnt happen with the key because the key cannot be removed except when all the pins are in thier proper places, none of them under the cut in the outer rim that holds the pins in.
hope thats clear enough to help,
look around the floor where you were picking it.
Im surprised this happened to an aceII as its one of better tubular locks. Ive seen this happen on cheap bike locks with knockoff ace locks.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
