A few quick questions...

Postby Safecracker13 » 4 Apr 2010 12:40

First off, does anyone know where you can get the display holders that you would find at Home Depot or Lowes? I'd like to get some of those to put locks in to practice, as opposed to holding a door knob in my hand to pick it. I'm not even sure they are available to the public, but thought I'd check.

Secondly, I have some locks that look something like this (the key hole specifically):
http://www.lockwiki.com/index.php/File: ... linder.jpg

The key lines are very pronounced and when I put my tension wrench in there is little room to pick and you practically have to pick it at an angle, as opposed to up and down.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I know people make their own boards to put locks on and pick. If you search this forum I am sure you can find some.

Buy some 4" x 2" and make your own. It will be significantly cheaper than buying them.

I used to work for a company (where I began my apprenticeship) that had a large display stand (about half the size of a door) with locks fitted all over the one stand. That way the stand could be moved or carted easily and was significantly cheaper than having multiple different stands, that you need shelf space for.

Regarding the OPs question on the lock. The lock asked about, especially if it IS an Assa or on par with it is no "easy"
lock. Not for any beginner.

I know that the OP mentioned the key hole but if you are trying to mount a lock exactly like that one in the picture which is called a mortise cylinder, it might be easier to pick one of these, http://www.adamsrite.com/media/pdf/v3/A ... 950ser.pdf from eBay. The lock in the picture is designed to thread into that deadbolt assembly and if installed correctly will become a fully functional locking assembly that you can hold upright in a vise of your choice.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
