Keys in other side of the euro

Postby Rickthepick » 3 Mar 2010 8:19

I came across a new problem yesterday gaining entry to a property where all keys had been left in other side of the euros and turned so they couldnt be pushed out.

I always imagined that this scenario would work the same as a euro thumbturn does by picking the one side and then manipulating the clutch mechanism to turn the cam

however i couldnt get this to work with a key in there i managed a small degree of movement but had to apply great pressure through a tiny wire which couldnt handle it.

So how do you overcome this scenario?

I got in through another door in the end using a clever trick... but thats another story

Could you pick the cylinder and then try push the key that is on the inside, out. I have noticed this problem but have never come across it I don't really come across this style of cylinder other than the odd french door or Gainsbourough lockset, might have a play around with it when I get a chance.

How far does the key stick out on the side your working on when pushed in? If its not too much you can grind a bit of the tip away and hopefully still have enough slope to lift the pins as it goes in.

They key tip pushes on the internal clutch meaning that the other plug is governing the locks cam.

this will let the key turn in the lock but the clutch needs to be pushed in to engage the barrel with the cam to lock/ unlock the door.

Rick, LB tool will see you right 99% of the time. If there's a key on the inside, they user can't have locked the door on the way out, so it's usually latched but not locked.

I believe MTL interactive cylinders can be treated the same as a Key&turn cylinder (I think snowyboy posted about this) but it doesn't work for most cylinders.

I quite agree. Loid the latch.

Yep :) An absolutely rediculous exploit to have. Astonishes me to see them put soooooooo much effort into say the MT5+ that they couldn't take two seconds to design something for the ring of the latch lever to not act as a turning point.

Here's a video anyway........ works on all MTL's I've tried it on from classic to MT5+, integrators etc but any lock with a large enough keyway for tools can do it. Oh and look at what I was using xD It wouldn't take more than a day to have something superbly quick and easy made up to do the same task.
