Anti-Panic System

Postby lsphinx » 30 Apr 2010 12:06

Hello to all,

I researched about a system called anti-panic opening system. I know that some Ezcurra locks and others have that system.

But I don't understand how it really works. The system "anatomy".

Can anyone familiar with that system explain how it works?

The info I've found is not general.

Perhaps I'm confused, but what I understand about it is: with that system we can be locked inside place but if it is an emergency, we can get out easily without need to operate the door lock.

However I'd appreciate very much every help.

Best Regards,

Luís

well because of fire code, panic bars are required on many doors, but people can use them to make a quick getaway after shoplifting. There is such a thing as alarmed panic bars, either tied into an alarm system or stand alone units that have an alarm box built into them. Detex is a common brand for those. There is also such a thing as a delayed egress panic bar, that when you push it, it waits 15 seconds or so before allowing you to exit.

hope this helps

oh and a panic bar is the "push bar" or "crash bar" that you quite often see in commercial buildings, schools, etc.

Cedrice,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I've seen some of those panic bars (as you say) on schools and commercial buildings.

But imagine this: you have that system at home, you lock your self inside home because of thieves and etc. and them there is a fire in the house, in panic we run to the door and we'll try to open it... But, will the door open without operate the door lock? Even with it strongly locked?

panic bars are used only in commercial buildings. Fire code does not require you to have them in your house.

I don't think you understand how a panic bar works. You do not need a key to open it from the inside. That is the whole point. If there is a fire and a stampede of people trying to exit the building through that door, all the have to do is push on the bar to exit. To enter from the outside is another thing. Panic bars are fairly secure and are pretty hard to bypass as they are latching into the inside portion of the frame.

Ok, once again thank you cedrice. Well, all my doubt began here http://www.centrallock.com.pt/details.php?id=960 it's in Portuguese but it's about a normal lock that I have at home (in school). This ezecurra on the link. I'll translate to English as good as I can: high security cylinder, secrets in anti drilling steel, anti-panic system, etc. there's my doubt it's a normal lock... I'm so sorry if you've already explained this in specific.

Now that you have clearly provided us with some needed information, I am sure someone will be along shortly to assist you further.

You are not asking about door hardware, (crash bar) you are asking about a specific lock.

Cannon EZCURRA

CILINDRO DE ALTA SEGURANÇA HIGH SECURITY CYLINDER

MEDIDA 35/40 ACTION 35/40

SEGREDOS EM AÇO ANTI BROCA SECRETS IN ANTI DRILL STEEL

SISTEMA ANTI-PÂNICO SYSTEM ANTI-PANIC

3 CHAVES POR CILINDRO 3 KEYS FOR CYLINDER

OPCÇÕES : CHAVE IGUAL OPCÇÕES: KEY SAME

MESTRAGEM Master key

I have no idea what anti panic means in this application. I am sure someone else will enlighten us.

Can you also provide us with the links where you found your other information you researched, as stated in your first post?

This must be some sort of "lost in translation" because the KESO Omega 2000 lock also has "systema anti-panico"

http://centrallock.com.pt/details.php?id=1215

and this centrallock.com site is the only place I can google that comes back to locks that have system anti panico.

could it mean "anti pick" or "pick resistant" ?

ok.. I FOUND IT!

"Sistema que permite abrir a porta mesmo se esquecendo de uma chave no seu interior."

means:

"System that allows to open the same door if forgetting a key in its interior."
So if have a double cylinder, and you locked the door on the inside and left the key in the door, someone else or a fire brigade could be outside, insert a key, and it will not disable the cam, you can still use the key on the outside to unlock the door.

phew.. that was easy..

ps. I found that information here: http://www.eda-sa.com/c38.html

 oh God. Well, this is embarrassing... Thank you all for the reply's. I'm sorry I haven't provided the right info right away. I thought it was common in locks in general...

squelchtone special thanks to you. You've found very nice info and, AND in Portuguese  I'm ashamed :) I've spent some time in our old friend google and found nothing...

I've to apologize to cedrice, I'm giving you the wrong idea about the info I was looking for.

Hello to all,

Now I've realized one thing about this system. It can be high security, but it's not that safe.

I mean:

at home (not in school), I have a normal 5 pin lock. At night when we go to bed, we have a safety measure; lock our selves inside and let the key on the door (has many other people). This way even if anyone have a key can not come in. Can come in only with other means than picking.

But, this lock with the anti-panic system can be picked even with a key inside, so that kind of system can be a security problem. Probably a weak spot.

Do you agree?
