weiser shim pick

Postby albear » 13 May 2010 4:23

I was looking at one of the supply places for locks and they had a weiser shim pick. No info was given about it. I went to the weiser site but no luck. Can some one give me some info on these? Also does any one have a drawing of a sesamee decoder tool ,i would like to make my own.

Albear,

What I think you are asking about is not a "Weiser shim pick" but rather a "Weiser shim" which is use to rekey Weiser lock. I have also never really seen the instruction written down on there use, it was taught to me like I'm about to teach you. Weiser shims are purchased from a number of different sources, usually your distributor for around $0.50 - $1.00. And it is nothing more than a thin strip of shim stock that fits down the keyway when a key is inserted in the lock.

When you go to rekey a Weiser lock that you, and this is key (no pun intended), have a working key for you can remove the cylinder without take the knob off the door. To use it insert a working key and then insert the shim along the bottom of the keyway as far as it will go and then push it in a little more. You should feel a little spring pressure back against the shim, then just turn the key and shim about 20 degrees either way and the face of the knob that is the cylinder will come off for rekeying. To reinstall just do the opposite. I hope this helps.

Snikrepmada, thanks for the info. I've always been taking the knobs off the door to rekey them.
