Beginner. Where to begin?

Postby Simmi » 20 Jun 2010 15:14

Hi.
I recently got interested in lockpicking. I live in Denmark but I am not Danish. I was wondering if anyone could give me an advice about how it is best to start. I have a budget of about 100$. I want to buy some lock picking set. I also want to buy some practice locks. Maybe some lock that I can take apart so I can take the pins out or something.

A little side question to any Dane that might be looking. I live in Odense. Do you know if there is any local shop here in Odense that sells these sets?

Thanks
Simmi

You should probably get a smaller set to start, most people don't use all of the picks they get in the bigger sets. something like http://www.lockpickshop.com/MPXS-08.html possibly or maybe a "slimline" set which is thinner picks if you will be picking euro cylinders. http://www.lockpickshop.com/C500.html is the smallest slimline set you will probably be able to find. http://www.lockpickshop.com/C1510.html is a bigger slimline set. also you should get some easy padlocks or deadbolts first to practice on. nothing fancy or expensive. deadbolts are nice for beginners because they can usually be repinned easily. Hope that helps.

2.Slim Line Large Diamond Pick
3.Slim Line Short Hook Pick
4.slim line long hook pick
5.Slim Line L Rake Pick / saw rake
6.Slim Line S Rake 2 / bogota rake

For a beginner i would say dont get caught up in big sets, and practice locks. Just get a basic set and some cheap locks, practice, read, practice and see if you still hold your interest if so then move up.

good luck
