A nickel silver key is one that is made out of a greenish looking metal alloy consisting of: copper, nickel and zinc -- rather than ordinary brass or chromium plated brass...

Nickel silver keys are considered to be of a higher quality than ones made of ordinary brass as the alloy is stronger than the brass which is used to make keys...

Other metals used for making keys for modern pin-tumbler locks have included aluminum and stainless steel...
