I've heard people say that the Schlage 6 pin keyway isn't good. So why?

I've read this here: http://forum.doityourself.com/residential-commercial-security-locks-keys-dead-bolts/395691-weiser-kwikset-schlage-question.html

A lock's brand name is usually stamped into the latch plate. If there is no name, it's usually a made-in-China el cheapo.
These mostly use the Schlage "C" keyway or the Dexter/Kwikset keyway.
By "compatible" I assume you mean similar keyway, so as to fit one key to all locks. Generally, a Kwikset key can be made to fit a Weiser lock, but not vice-versa. Neither is compatible with Schlage. In SOME cases, aftermarket cylinders can be ordered from your local locksmith to fit into SOME types of locks.

Like the page you linked to talked about. The 3 most common keyways in use, in residential installations, are the Kwikset, Weiser, and the Schalge "C" keyways.

Being as it may, being so common, the bad thing to me, about the any of these keyways would be the large numbers of them and the ability to get tools into them to NDE the lock. Especially bumping.

It is not good because it is so common...

I discussed some of the reasons why in the following thread here on LP101...

Recent thread > Got Questions? > Using a single key on multiple locks? How common is it?

Check out that thread and reply here with any further questions or thoughts you might have...

Out of the basic keys Schlage is the best (in my opinion) its the most accurate and most durable. But I'm not the biggest kwickset fan. If you want a good cylinder the Multlock or medeco is the way to go. I prefer multlock because its much more vestibule in terms of master system and being keyed alike. most high security locks are not popular outside of major cities.
