Why isn't my bump key working?

I was ready a lot online about them but two things, I didn't want to mess it up to a point where I couldn't fix it, and I don't know exactly why it won't work. I'll take a bunch of pic's and maybe some one can tell me where I should go from here.

Well I actually did read a thread before this (how I found the site) but I still wasn't sure if there was just something I read wrong or I am doing wrong as to why my key won't work.

When the key is fully inserted, the spacing of the cuts may be off so you might wanna make sure everything lines up properly. Another likely problem is the lock itself, if it's old and stiff or has security pins then bumping is made more difficult.

Not that a homemade (vice machine cut) bump key will not work, I have made them, but I would not try the the one pictured.

The cuts "may" be spaced correctly, but the actual cuts are all over the place. The angles look to be all different and the "teeth" are not the same height.

Now this key could work, but if one of the lower teeth is used on a deeper bitting, it may not bump and bottom pin high enough to puch the top pin past the shear line.

Ah I see. I tried to round off the angles to a more even look. I also did try to make all the teeth the same height. Here are two more pics:




Any other advice? I have an old lock I am testing them on and I could post a vid and maybe some one could tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance!

also would this be the area I would have to shave off to make a minimal movement bump key?

This is what a proper Schlage bump key looks like. Even if to your eyes the cuts you made look "pretty good", it is easy to see they are not very accurate, nor are they the same depth across the entire key, and the shape of your valleys is not ideal.

You know, I'm sure, that bumping tears locks up. Whatever locks you use for practice will need to be repinned and rebuilt fairly often. I used to teach bumping in my classes but there was too much overhead - had to rebuild 1-2 locks out of a dozen after every one hour session.

haha, yeah im gonna side with whats been said. That looks... quite sloppy.

Also another protip: Use the MACRO setting on your camera. its the option that (usually) looks like a little flower.
It makes your closeup pictures turn out, instead of being blurry. Cheers
