HPC 1200 code machine problem

Postby bh5213 » 31 Jul 2010 10:56

I was trying to recalibrate a used hpc 1200 that I recently received and have encountered a problem. I was trying to recalibrate the depth space needle and now it is stuck in the middle and will not go back all the way to the left. Any suggestions? I was using the recalibration kit the HPC supplies and trying to follow the directions. Not sure how old the machine is. Would this need to be sent to HPC for servicing? Thanks for any input.

Only thing I can think of is the splined gears under the card plate slipped. Maybe you cranked on it while it was locked in the calibration kit and jumped several splines. You may have to take the top face off and attept to get the needle sitting right to start with. Before doing this set your standard calibration adjustments to center so you can adjust the maximum amount possible in either direction once you get set on the closest gear spline when setting the face plate back on. Be sure to check that you have not ruined any splines on the gears that interface. If I recall correctly the gear on bottom of the face plate itself is brass but I don't recall if the one in the machine is plastic or brass. If you don't feel like you can do this, you can send it in to hpc and have it done for a few hundred bucks or so.

Hope that helps some.

Hi pal the way i understand in your case, is that the micro gear for the depth key adjustment has jump off from the gear that drives the depth key needle. causing it to stuck in a certain point. it can be return back to its track but with a lot of care. you can confirm that by opening thru the two hex nut and see the micro gear that engage the pin which makes the depth indicator move. if the derailment is minor you can return it easily, But if the mislocation is too bad. follows our moderator Zeke79 recommendation, let the company recalibrate it for you. goodluck (we are using one of this machine and readjusting it very seldom. its a delicate machine but a very durable one. its over 22years old now. still dependable.) regards
