Baldwin smartkey

Baldwin smartkey

Hello. Let me Start by saying I'm not a lock smith I'm a hardware installer with he knowledge of a traditional cylinder. Recently ive encountered a Baldwin smartkey that messed up when I was trying to rekey. My question is, will a kwikset reset system work wig
Th the baldwin cylinder now tha they are the same company?

Baldwin and Kwikset share the same parent company: Stanley Black & Decker. After becoming sister companies, they set up a deal where all Baldwin products sold in big box stores (Home Depot and Lowes) come with Kwikset cylinders, specifically the SmartKey design. Baldwin products sold through actual Baldwin stores are still using Schlage cylinders.

This is not entirely accurate. There is supposedly a cut off date that has been put in place whereby all new Baldwin product will be supplied only with Smartkey technology. Non-Smartkey technology will still be available (for Baldwin) because they need to maintain their lifetime warranties that they offer on most of their inventory.
