Problems with Basic black flimsy plug spinner

Postby goodwilll » 15 Nov 2010 13:32

I have been having some real trouble on my schlage deadbolt. I have successfully picked it a dozen or so times in the wrong direction but I got one of those black flimsy plug spinners that are pretty common because picking the wrong way has always been something that is quite frustrating. So thought I would get a plug spinner and problems solved. However, it either doesnt spin quick enough or I am doing something wrong. The spring end is a bit mangled now and I have had to use pliers to get it looking normal again after repeated efforts where the blade end merely disrupts and unravels the top springend a bit. When I bought it there were no directions but it seemed simple. Spin it the direction you need, put it into the plug and let go and the lock should be unlocked. However it just goes enough to let the pins go back in place. I have tried turning it 2 or 3 times as well as just turning it 1/2 or 1 turn, but to no avail. Any suggestions? Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong? Or is this type of plug spinner not very good in the first place? Thanks in advance!

A plug spinner is not difficult to make. fabricate a Z shape wrench 1"X1"X1" pile the part to be inserted at the keyway. thats the major part. for the "kicker" a flat coiled spring, or a rubber band is enough to generate speed in turning that core cylinder to the other side.
