Turning a deadbolt...

Postby joestay » 12 Dec 2010 14:57

Hi, I just started lock picking as a hobby. I've been able to pick and unlock my doors already but I am in need of help with the deadbolt. I don't really pick, I just rake and it works. Now, for the deadbolt, I am able to turn the key hole but not all the way because I don't want to break my tension wrench. It seems like it requires lots of torque to turn but I don't want to break my tension wrench. Anyway around this? I have the southord mpxs-14 set.

This used to happen to me all the time with this American Lock 700 series I got. I'd have to use a light tension wrench to pick it and a heavier one to turn it.

Let me ask you this, where are you putting tension? Top of keyway or bottom? As in, spot closes to the pins or farthest away? If you're putting tension on the bottom of the keyway (farthest away), try going to top of keyway. It'll be weird at first, but it gives you better torque on the plug since you're tensioning it in a more centered spot.

This is all assuming you already know the lock IS picked and you're just having trouble turning the plug. :) Good luck.

Hi,

Yeah, I already know the lock is pick. I'm just having trouble turning it afterwards. I put tension on the whole tension wrench.

You're not limited to the tools inside that little pouch y'know... use something stronger. I dunno why you can't just figure this out on your own.

your door may be out of adjustment and resting some of its weight on the bolt, this happens when the house settles overtime

The solution is to save your tensor and use a small straight bladed screwdriver on both the dead bolt and the american700
