I dont think towies have quite figured out how to use a LRT....lol

I wonder if the OP is a towie?

I've seen many tow truck drivers use the LRT and they are quite brutal with them.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Not that long ago, I called AAA because my key went where it shouldn't... in the trunk. That tow truck driver idiot used "slim jim" and left more than a few marks on my interior and took some paint off in door jamb. If the shop owner's name was Jim, I can assure you he was a bit thinner in his pocket from that driver caused since I made them pay for it.

Bringing back a thread from the dead.. I'm a bit surprised at a few of the comments.

a "Slim Jim" is still an effective bypass method on even 2010 vehicles (Eg I just slimed my 2010 Nissan this past week). Just like other bypass methods, it's not going to work on all vehicles (and each vehicle is different in the location, push/pull , bend in the slim jim etc..) like picking, it's a bit of an art itself. I used to work at a valet car park service, as the lot foreman, and had to open 5-6 a week.

Also just like picking, if you bash away at it, you are going to damage the vehicle, and it takes patience and practice, not average Joe trying to get in the quickest he/she can.

I think this is the first slim jim DIY question that has come up while I've been reading, most newbies aren't about making tools.

so really this is like a first time anyone asked.

the replys are all correct, the thing is so last millenium, but it still has some utility for those who have one and know where and how to use it.

and legion 303 did help the guy already.

I used to think the little bug only did figure eights, but noticed that it is sort of random and the size of the 8 can get bigger or smaller.

I don't know why everyone is being all secretive about how a slim jim looks, they can be found at hardware stores and automotive shops. I also don't know why you're asking , as the answer to your question can be found in google images: Here

Slim Jim +1

Locked Jeep 0

Seems in real life, the Slim Jim gets used more at my place then any set of lock picks (for actual needed unlocking of a lock).
