Just looking for some help

Postby tloc3385 » 22 Apr 2011 3:58

Hey guys long time picker new member. I joined because I have a question. I have picked a good bit of different locks since I began in the hobby, but I recently bought the contents of a storage locker at an auction. Inside the unit was a few commercial washers and dryers amongst other commercial items. I already picked the tubular on top of the coin box unit, but I'm having trouble picking the lock on the coin box. Can anyone give me some tips on how to pick these or can they be drilled? Should I just keep at it and keep trying? I contacted some local lock smiths most wouldnt do it but the ones who would where trying to charge 100 dollars per lock thats just too much money into my profit for me so I'd like to do it myself. Any help would be appreciated.

typically its as cheap or cheaper to just replace the locks, that said,

the rest of your question is unanswerable because you have not given enough information on the lock you ask about.
no brand name, that would have helped, no mechanical description, we can work with that if well observed and reported.

keep tryin though

Well the washer and dryer are speed queens thats the brand on them. I will post a picture of the lock as soon as I have a chance. I believe its a disc lock but not sure. I've only been picking for 4 years so I dont know everything. As for replacing the locks that is an option but I would also like the satisfaction of picking these.

The washer and dryer brand doesn't help us answer your questions. It's the lock type/brand that is needed, although I suspect most forum members will be hesitant to give you specific details on opening laundromat coin box locks as this is primarily a hobbyist site and the prevailing credo is "don't pick locks that don't belong to you, and don't pick locks that are in use." I'm not trying to be rude, your need here might be completely legitimate. We just have no way of verifying that. You might be surprised how frequently new visitors come to the forum and their first question is how to open the coin boxes on laundromat machines or other vending machines. Questions like this tend to raise people's alert levels here.

If your locks are disc detainer locks you'll need some specialized equipment. Some details can be found in the advanced forum, although access to that area is only given after sticking around for a while and letting people get to know you a bit. I'll warn you though, if you're new to picking, it's unlikely you'll be able to pick that type of lock anyways. My suggestion is to call a few more locksmiths and see if you can get a better rate than $100 per lock as that seems a tad higher than usual.

Thanks for the help I managed to pick one today. I'm working on the others now. I understand people being hesitant about it , but I legitamatley own these machines but to sell them I need to rekey these locks, and that is alot less expensive to do myself. I do appreciate everyones advice I really do i'll post the pic of the lock when I get to a computer I cant do it from my phone for some reason. I have already contacted all the local locksmiths and they were all about the same price. Thanx again.

Congratulations. I'm still quite curious to see some picture of the locks though, to see what made them difficult.

They were my first disk detaining locks. Thats y they were difficult I made my own diy disk detaining pick. Things actually went pretty quickly once I saw how they worked on youtube.
