Question???

Postby Jeremym0411 » 11 May 2011 10:08

Ok i know this is not the place to post this but i need help. I have a 1900 something cannon ball safe. The safe has not been opened in over 40 years. I have disassembled the front of the safe to where you can see the gear that you turn using the long handle to open the safe. But the problem is i cant get the gear to turn and i dont have a handle to use to open it. Does anyone have any ideas???? Please help me out.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Nope, cant help, no experience on cannon ball safes, how big is it,
a local locksmith shop had one restored and that as I remember it, (havent seen it in years, the shop moved.)
it was a very large cast iron ball about three feet in diameter, and on a pedetal base that put it about the right height for someone standing infront of it.

That said, Im glad someone has brought up cannonball safes and I would really like to see some of our very knowlegable members just tell us their experiences with anything like this, photos would be a plus

were these made in smaller sizes too?

I believe its cast iron though the only one I know of was covered in black paint, I just thought that casting was the only possible technique to make a large hollow iron ball.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!

so you post it anyway.. real nice man..

Please try to adhere to forum rules about the various topics that can and cannot be discussed. If we answer your safe question here to be helpful, and later down the road some bad guy using google trying to find info gets to read your question and our detailed replies, then we let the info out and fail in trying to keep some of this info from the wrong people.

I'm locking this now, please don't repost this question in open forum.
