Picky Plug Direction

Postby GhostNode » 14 Jul 2011 14:24

I've been working on a (very) used locking exterior doorknob which I picked up from a used-hardware store. With the way I've mounted it in my practice stand, the bolt protrudes to the left. I'm able to rake and pin-by-pin pick the lock clockwise with little effort, however clockwise rotation with the way it's mounted LOCKS the knob. When i try to pick it counter-clockwise, the pins seem very difficult to move when i apply the minimalist effort on the torque wrench. I've got the key for the knob, so i know it DOES turn counter-clockwise, and i know that that IS the direction to unlock. What makes the internals very stubborn in one direction, but not the other? and does anyone have any suggestions to overcoming this challenge?

It might be alot of things. . .dirt or maybe a pin or 2 have been damaged on one side causing them to hook. .try a dry lubricant to let things move more smoothly

This happens, some locks are just easier to pick to the locked position.

If you know the picking order for the binding pins clockwise, do it in reverse counter clockwise, this sometimes works for me.

Other than that. Why not just use a plug spinner, I don't think its cheating to use one, after all you did pick it.
