Trying to replace lockset -- old cylinder stuck

Postby lls » 22 Sep 2004 12:36

Help!

I am trying to replace the old lockset on my garage service door. The old lock was difficult to remove. Most of it is out and I am left with the circle hole in the door with the cylinder and latch remaining. Unfortunately I shut the door while prying off the rose and now I cannot get the door open and I cannot remove the cylinder. I am at a standstill without a clue.

What can I do?

If you still have the outer knob still in the latch assembly, just push it out of the latch. Then use a wide flat blade screwdriver in the latch where the outer knob came through. Turn the screwdriver like you would the knob. The plug will retract, and you will be on your way.

Thank you! I've been wrestling with this for a week. I'm not sure what I did, but your help definitely inspired me! Thanks again.
