Need assistance with a Trigger lock (Master Lock)

Postby FluffyNotFat » 5 Aug 2011 1:11

Hello!

I am brand new here and not really a lock guy - Just a guy who needs to open a lock and would like to save some money and embarassment.

Years ago, I purchased a small handgun. I am a very safety conscious individual and placed a trigger lock on the gun. I put it away. Never really used it. And now the locked gun sits in a locked area and the key or what I ever did with it is lost and forgotten. Every once in awhile I think I need to do something with that, but never have.

Is it possible for someone with NO lock experience like myself to actually be able to open the lock without a great deal of expense? I thought to try to drill it at one point, but was afraid i would really scratch up the gun in the process.

Any help, direction or step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks! And thanks for a very practical forum that a lot of people can gain knowledge from.

You should take it to locksmith.
Usually first posts asking about how to open certain lock won´t be answered, and this one, opening a trigger lock, I would not like to find answer by googling it.
I´m sure it´s yours, and not your fathers gun that you wanna take to school, but you see my point?

Thank you for your reply. The subject matter of the forum makes answering questions somewhat complicated I know. As it is impossible to know someones intention or direction. Whether the information being sought is for good or for nefarious reasons.

Unfortunately, I think there are probably only 3 main types of people who come here. 1) Those involved in some aspect of locks, locksmithing or security. 2) Dishonest people and 3) People who, themselves have a lock related problems/issues and are looking for a solution, they, themselves can pursue. I am that 3rd person, but no way to prove it? :|

That is the dilemma of the Internet, yes, it's very hard to determine intent so it's better to err on the side of caution when giving someone advice. Especially considering that picking locks may or may not be legal depending on where you live, regardless of your intentions, but that's another can of worms.

For what it's worth, I think there's nothing to be embarrassed about with regards to losing a key; as long as you don't find the key sitting next to the gun it's really a minor thing. If you need to make a comment that diffuses the situation when a locksmith is there just tell them you're so security-minded you even denied yourself access! Point is, I think your best bet is just to get the locksmith in and call it a reasonably priced life lesson.

Sharp drill bits will not do any collateral damage. Sorry can't tell you much more in an open forum.
