Key for a Manko lock?

Postby Liveone » 18 Aug 2011 12:06

Hi all! I recently purchased a property and one of the doors has a lock on it that says "MANKO". This is the first time I have seen one of these locks and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. I would like to get a key made for it but am not sure what kind of key I should use. Can anyone help?

Our servers are full so you cant attach a photo, but in this case, a photo would be very helpful. Could you put one on your own server or on a service like PhotoBucket and paste a link to it here? I have a list of 175 lock companies and manko isn't on the list.

Also would help to tell us what country you are from, lots of people here from US, UK, AUS, NZ, Canada, Germany, Italy, Finland, Netherlands.

Thanks

I think your lock cylinder is a generic SC1 or KW1 or Y1 keyway, the lock is probably made for Manko Window and Door company, and is probably a mortise cylinder that is screwed into an aluminum frame glass door. You can remove that cylinder and walk into a locksmith shop and either get a replacement cylinder from any lock brand out there, or ask for that old one to be be keyed up. I will tell you that the cylinder you have is $10 dollar junk... so if you're looking for any security or key control you may want to ask about Schlage Primus, Abloy, BiLock, or Medeco high security locks.

PPG Glass does this as well on their doors and windows, you'll see the occasional mortise cylinder with a PPG logo stamped on it.

Here's Manko's site:

You completely nailed it. It is set into what looks like an aluminum door. Thanks for the help and definitely the advice on replacing the cylinder.
