picking improving lock function?

i'm sitting here with a paclock (lowest bidder military lock) and i have some experience with using these in normal fashion, tonight first experience picking them. these locks usually give me trouble opening them with the key, and i expected it to be almost impossible to pick, due to how the plug normally binds when using the key. it has given me some problems setting the pins because of this, but i've picked it a few dozen times now. that seems to have actually improved the function of the lock, as now it opens better with the key (still sticks, but doesn't seem to be about to snap the key in half). i'm new to this hobby, so i'm wondering what could cause this, as i've wound up having to lubricate other locks after i picked them a couple hundred times. the lock function is still subpar, but definitely noticeably better than it was when it was newer. could it just be breaking in? most of the ones we use on vehicles and such only get worse than they started as we use them. btw, the key still is a pain to put in and take out, that part didn't change at all, could be how far the pins go down.

p.s. i'm sitting in kuwait pulling 12 hour shifts on caffeine, so this could be really stupid. i've searched picking improving function and improving function, found something about bogota picks. nothing about picking a lock causing it to work more smoothly.

I'm glad you included the model number as the last thing in your post, otherwise I'd be asking for photos to make sure you werent sitting there picking Sargent & Greenleaf 833 or 951 high security padlocks

It's a decent made padlock, and the company has an account on here, so you could probably PM PACLOCK and get a good answer, but normally picking doesnt make it work better suddenly with the key. Maybe your picks are getting sand and grit out of the keyway, but that's the only thing that comes to mind.

yeah, i'm wondering if some of the roughness isn't the lack of springs in it. it seems to not have a single spring other than the ones in the pin stacks. it probably also helps with keeping it working a bit longer, after all, if the springs aren't there, they can't break. after i get bored with this one or get a hold of another one, i'll see about taking out the rivets and see what i'm left with.
