Advice on buying first picks please

Postby Phoenix » 23 Sep 2004 15:57

Hey,

I have just bought a cd from ebay about lockpicking, and wish to buy some lockpicks. (Im in the uk...Scotland)

I have no experience of lockpicking so this is my first time buying. Can you please give me some advice on what set to buy, and where to buy them?

I would like to be able to pick all kinds of locks with the set I buy, example: Padlocks, houselocks, locked drawers etc

Im wanting to start this for a bit of fun and maybe a hobby.

Thanks in advance 8)

Ive checked the faq's.

But I didnt see any recommendations for which ones to buy...

And I didn't see anything saying which sets could be used for picking which kind of locks.

Advice please?

You really need to do a bit of lurking and reading and searching. The information is there, but maybe a bit scattered around. There was an extremely informative post by Romstar that I saw just today that answered exactly your question. In fact, just search for posts by Romstar and you will find the mother lode.

Ok thanks.

Do you know what the topic was named that the post from Romstar is in?

I think it's the 17 piece southord set that is most frequently suggested to begginers. Making your own is another popular choice.

if you want a list to pick all household locks , im afraid your going to run into thousands.
read the posts and start with cylinders and padlocks, this will keep you going for a while and be kinder on your budget

Perhaps you might want to make your own picks first to see if this hobby is for you before you make an investment in the manufactured picks.
There is a lot of information in this site about making your own picks.
Maybe start with a small hook and a small half diamond for starters. Take some time and do a really good search of this site. Heed Towch's advice.
