Euro cylinder locked

Postby buzfuz » 8 Aug 2004 14:25

Locked the door and now unable to open. cannot get at the lock retaining screw and wonder how to remove the lock with out damaging it as I think the problem lies in door mechanism and not the cylinder the key only quarter turns. Any advise to remove without damage and manually open the door.

Need more info. What kind of application do you have? ie residential door with spring latch, deadbolt, commercial mortise etc?

If you have the key, with the key in the lock press straight down hard until you hear a click. Then try opening it again. Those euro's tend to seize, this method works on my back door. Quite nice though as I can't see a way it could ever be picked ;)

P.S. Apologies to chucklz for the language in my prev post. I can't even remember what it was I said now, but sorry for unnecessary profanities :)
Cheers!

It's a residential double glazed door with a rack lock the one that you lift the handle to put the bolts home and then turn the lock. Just want to remove the lock and hopefully release the mechanism. :?

if it is a fault with the mechanism then and the door is locked then you have limited options of removing the cylinder without trashing it.

you could go to the extreme of removing the door via the hinges, this would keep the cylinder intact.
you could remove the handles, drill a small hole just above the cylinder into the lockcase and with a small screw driver lift the single lever and retract the bolt.

other than this you can try tapping the cylinder with a mallet forward and back to ensure its not catching on case.

final option is to remove handles and snap cylinder in half.

hope it helps

How about taking off the door handle and squirting some wd40 or similar into the lock on the door not the euro. It may ease it enough to get it open, you could then strip it down and find out why it was sticking.

good for you, its a handy entry to a euro on a upvc door, if you can remove the handles , drill a 6mm hole directly above the cylinder, drill the 2mm lock case only, insert a small screwdriver, lift the single lever and retract bolt, works every time on euro or oval, wood or upvc.

better if you drill from indoors though, if drilled from outside its a good idea to stick a small repair plate over hole.

one little tip, never use loads of wd40 always a small squirt, too much can cause as many problems as it cures.
