Broke my pad lock

Postby Dukerdog » 30 Nov 2011 14:51

Hey guys,

First post mainly have been lurking, just want to say thank you to all for the valuable info everyone has provided a newbie lock picker. I have a set of Southord lock picks.

I have been practicing on my pad locks (Master, American, Brinks) and have opened all of them except my Brinks Stainless Steel Discus Padlock  . I had a real problem trying to open or even get a feel for it.

I was just able to pick the Brinks Stainless Steel Discus Padlock this weekend :D and now the key does not open the lock  . All well. At least I opened it.

Just thought I’d share.
Thanks again.

If you can figure out how to make the key work again on a reliable basis, this would be a good experience for someone with a worn lock that the rekey would be cheaper than new or if it had sentimental value.

Just a thought.
Shalom/Peace.

Did you try checking if something broke inside, then cleaning the lock (for example with a syringe, needle on, pushing the plug hard to create a certain pressure) and using a lubricant?

Does the cylinder get stuck or does it rotate somehow? Did the side tolerance/play increase?

Hope you can solve this issue

I think I have the same Brinks lock and for me to pick it, I have to put a TON of tension on it. Is this what finally worked for you? If so, I would imagine that putting a lot of tension on a lock can create unique stresses for the locks innards? This is in addition to the point that picking at that tension put's strain on your pick. I'm not even sure if I would be able to pick this thing with a slim-line without it breaking (short of a Peterson Govt steel)
