If you're familiar with key pins and driver pins (
and assuming it's a pin tumbler lock) you may be overlifting that first one, hence the key pin "disappearing".
Or if your cylinder rotates a little after you feel you've set one pin, it may very well be a security pin. Have a look in the FAQs section and on the whole board's tutorials
