I started picking a few weeks ago as a hobby and after a few speedbumps I thought I was moving along smoothly enough to try a lock with some security pins in it. I bought a brinks deadbolt from Wal-Mart and brought it home to practice on, but when I took it apart I didn't find any security pins. I decided to keep it and try it anyway, and after opening it a half a dozen times or so with relative ease (10-15 seconds?), I looked for a video about security pins on youtube. That was when I realized my mistake--that the security pins were the driver pins--not the key pins. What can I say? I wasn't thinking straight.

After taking it apart again (completely this time), I found two spool pins. I was pretty happy with myself, especially after having a few days where I wasn't getting anywhere even after a few hours on one lock. I know Brinks are not notoriously hard to open by any stretch, but for a beginner I thought this wasn't too shabby.

The moral of the story is to hang in there (like the cat posters say) and practice all the time. Progress will come.

Incidentally, I only used the cylinder and part that houses the bible, so if anyone needs some spare lock parts, pm me and I'll be happy to send them to you. Thanks for a great site and all the indispensable information!
