Any Pin a SFIC

Postby pmackey » 5 Feb 2013 11:50

Aloha!

I am working on rekeying an administration building and came across a unique question. We are going Best B SFIC away from an LSDA LSA keyway. The current "lock" on the restroom is a LSA C500 with no pins at all. This way anyone with any key that works in that building can use it to unlock the door. I want to maintain this when I move to SFIC, but obviously that's more of a challenge with the control key. I can work on cross keying the door but I might still have the same problem as the cross key will include at least 30 change keys. Is it possible to make a SFIC to allow any key in that keyway or should I just look into issuing out a restroom key?

Thanks ahead of time....

Replace the lock with a Privacy function.

Requiring a specific key (even an uncut key) for a restroom lock is against life safety codes in many places.

That would make it much easier. I'm in Georgia as well... do you happen to know what code that falls under? My bosses would certainly want to see that in writing, but it would save me a ton of headaches.

If it is a personal restroom you can have it under lock and key. If it is for the public to use you can not have a key lock on it. (Around here) . Check your local ordinances. It may require a privacy. Remember that new codes on locks are usually grandfathered and dont take effect untill changed.
I cant say its a state or local ordinance. City fire marshal here is strict on locks.

Buy the book like everybody else.

It's fun to read.

You might can contact your local building inspector and they can give you the code.

You can easily pin up a core if you masterkey it properly using part of the key as constant cuts and master the rest. Then just pin it up on the constant pin stacks and leave the masterkeyed stacks empty. All keys would operate the core and the control key would work as well.
