Warded lock woes

Postby daniel22747 » 6 Feb 2013 0:24

Ok

So I got some southord warded picks. They work well and open most warded lock pretty well.

However I have this one lock, a master lock, that just wont open. The key is a double sided warded key. The lock has
an adjustable and removable shackle. None of the picks will open it and it looks like the tip of the key may be just a little shorter
than any of the tips on the warded picks. Is this cause of the problem.

I have some other warded picks coming that look to have much shorter tips on them so maybe they will work.

Any one else have this problem with warded lock picks?

This video will help you. Minor alterations may have to be made to your warded picks.

Enjoy,

Do you have pictures of the lock?
Maybe you can use it's own key to make a skeleton key for locks with that size (use a copy of course )

I have some really small warded padlocks (for luggage and stuff) that my warded picks wont even get inside. So I used their own keys to make picks. They aren't perfect but they sure do the job.

Here's a pic: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iv8vzpi8c8mqq7z/2013-02-06%2011.14.01.jpg

They're pretty rough, but they do work well so I still haven't stopped and sit to sand them perfectly
They where all the same key wich I (tried to) cut some parts. Untill now I've managed to open every warded lock that size I came across with those (they can also be opened with a ball or double ball pick).

Be safe!
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

Ok so I got the hang of warded picks now!

Turns out warded picks are not as easy as some claim they are. Sure it's easy with the real basic cheap warded locks, but that it not so much the case with better quality ones. Or at least not until you get the hang of it and learns some important tricks.

You can open them with a paper clip generally.

Well.... for example in some instruction it says you need to put the warded pick all the way to the back for it to work. This is true sometimes, but often it is not.

In the higher quality double sided master lock I was trying to open the pick needed to be instered about half way up and then turned. When I did this is popped right open!

In another master lock that was single sided you needed to put the pick in to the back and then pull out just a tad and then turn to get the lock to open up.
