lock pick tools on flight to Panama???

Postby rbc123 » 10 Feb 2013 18:41

I am a new person to lock picking. My story goes like this. I have a house on an island in Panama with sliding glass doors. Keys were lost to one set of doors. No such thing as a locksmith on the island. So I need to pick the lock.
If I buy a set of basic pick tools can I put in hand carry from Miami to Panama?
What are my chances of opening this sliding door Lock?
thanks
Randy

If it is only one locked door than I would suggest that you purchase a new lock for the door, find another way into the house and open the door from inside and install the new lock.

I can get in to house thru another door.
I cannot open the locked door from the inside, which means I cannot replace the lock until I can open the door and get at the lock screws from edge of door.
So I must figure out how to pick it.

I plan to learn to pick but my question was whether or not I can have lock pick tools in carry on?

As I understand it they are not expressly prohibited on US flights under FAA rules, but if you get a badge-heavy TSA agent at the security checkpoint, all bets are off.
You're better off putting them in a check-on bag.

Ever see that show Locked Up Abroad? Flying in the USA with picks is not a terrible ordeal, but I wonder what kind of interesting mess you might get into with local police or Panamanian airport guards for having lock picks. That's what you should really be worried about.

Maybe you can mail them to yourself at your island home.

It might be wiser to take a dremel, files, sandpaper or whatever else you may want, then manufacture yourself a hook or rake there. Then you don't have to worry about the kind of trouble Squelchtone is wisely warning you about getting into.
