Where can I buy used locks in the UK?

Postby Denior13 » 3 Apr 2013 2:05

Hiyas all. Basically the subject says it all I'm stationed in the UK living in Newmarket England and I have picking padlocks for about 2 months now. I'm getting decent at it but now I would like to expand my collection/skills to I guess what would be called door cylinder locks. I have previously purchased the Advanced Lock PickingTraining Kit from lockpickshop.com and it is decent but would like more locks to pratice with. If I was in the states this would not be an issue we have a multitude of ways to get 2nd hand locks but I'm not familiar with any of those programs in the UK. So my question is where can I purchase some 2nd hand locks in the UK names of stores or programs would be great.

Thanks in Advance

Have you tried ebay, there is normally a few on there.
I have found used padlocks and cylinders on car boot sale stalls.

Hi Denior,

Welcome to the forum.

As well as eBay (there is no shortage there), phone around your local locksmiths. Most of them save locks they replace in order to sell them on as scrap metal. Of course, most of these will be without keys (and most are working snapped cylinders), but you can get some really good stuff for beginners. Some will even just throw it all to you for nothing, while others would charge you a very nominal amount for a bag full. Plus, while us locksport people mostly meet here online, to have a friendly lockie around for any questions or share a beer is a real bonus.

One other tip, sometimes a lockie will frown at locksport people, while others are really helpful to know people who are interested in locks. I'll sometimes tell them I'm into impressioning and leave out the picking part  I know, I know, but what to do?

Get the yellow pages out and give it a try.
