Can't pick Fortress 30mm

Postby AaronVlogs » 31 May 2013 23:07

I have picked every lock I have bought so far including a fortress 40mm but this 30mm has got me. I am new to lockpicking. I have looked it up but can't find anything on the 30mm only the 40mm. Any tips?

I believe Fortress is Master Lock's cheap line of padlocks made for department stores such as Target.

If your lock is brass, it is pretty much like a Master No.140 and should have a spool pin or two in there. If it is a silver lock and laminated (made of metal plates) it may be a Made in China Fortress which may have mushroom security pins inside and good luck picking one of those if you're just starting out.

welcome to locksport!

That one might be either full of mushrooms, OR have no security pins at all. Try tensioning it counter clock wise, sometimes they open easier that way.

Alright I will keep trying but one more question if you don't mind. The china fortress 40mm, I can pick it but it's harder than the others. Is there any way to find what type of pins are in there for sure?

Cut lock open, that's the only real way to be sure. There are guides in the Sticky sections on how to do that.

Safety first! put down your beer before cutting into padlock.
