The Pins - Please Help

Postby samB » 7 Jul 2013 15:37

When picking the lock i manage to get the pins binding but i find whilst doing this any particular pin will cause the rest of them to release again. I have tried different tension wrench's, different picks and different pressures on my wrench and pick to overcome this without success. I would be very grateful for any advice, tips ect on what i am doing wrong and how i could overcome this?
Thank you in advance :)

Judging by what you are saying, I would guess you are oversetting that pin. Don't lift it that high, and if you don't feel it set, try to find another binding pin.

You should read Solomon's book - Detail Overkill. Search the forum for it, it will help you a lot.

I'll be expecting an updae on this
Good luck!
Go ahead, keep plugging away, picking on me! You will end up on bypass or with rigor mortise.

What kind of lock are you trying to pick, and have you picked a lock open before?

Thanks,

I had this problem a lot too and still struggle with it. I usually assume I've overset something. I try some graphite, and attempt a different binding order,

If your lock has a spool pin in it you may be able to set some of the other pins outside their true binding order. When you set the spool pin it will cause these other pins to fall. No worries just set them again.

Also over setting may be a cause as well.
