*Real* local locksmith locator?

Postby theTastyCat » 15 Nov 2013 20:18

Hey all - I just ordered a Keyport (www.mykeyport.com, pretty slick) because I'm tired of a bunch of sharp, bulky keys bulging out of the pocket of really nice suit pants. I need find a good locksmith to cut the key blanks for me. I recall recently someone posting a reply in a thread that included a link to locating a good local locksmith, and now I can't find it. I'm sure it's the same everywhere, but here in Nashville, TN there are SO many fly-by-night, unlicensed locksmiths that it's incredibly hard to find a B&M lock shop without calling everyone that Google turns up. The few that are listed on ALOA's site come up on Street View as houses.

Anybody happen to know that link? Many thanks, all.

Seems like that would still take up a lot of space in your pocket. And heaven help you if you need more than six keys!

Well, the best thing about it is that it removes the width (the long-side width, the part you turn with your fingers to open the lock) from the equation, so it will sit much flatter in my pocket. Just a bit thicker than a key shaft is wide.

And yeah, if you need more than 6 keys you're out of business, but I took this as an excellent opportunity to truly examine how many I really need every day. I do have a few in the truck that I can get to easily if I need to, but they're much more rare. The only regular key that I'll probably still have to carry is my truck key, since the shift lever of my 04 Silverado will likely strike the end of the Keyport if it was in the ignition. Oh well - one key I can live with.

Everyone who eats potatoes eventually dies. Therefore potatoes are poisonous.

Took me all of a few seconds to find this seemingly established and respected local shop and I am unfamiliar with your city.

Thanks, keysman! Just the link I was looking for.

Cledry, you're luckier than I am - I waded through pages of google results to find just two - the one you provided and West End Lock, which I've been to before, but they looked at me like I was some sort of felon when I asked if I could buy any old, useless locks they had around so I could practice. I think I even had a tie on when I was there, and I don't appreciate the mindset; certainly unhelpful to locksport. And they also couldn't open a little crappy Chinese padlock I brought in. Made me feel a little better about it anyway.

Will be dropping by Hosse & Hosse Monday morning! Thanks for the help, all.
