Getting my first set, any advice?

Postby monibis » 28 Apr 2014 7:40

Hello all,
Very soon I will getting my first set of lockpicks as I really want to try a new hobby. I cant really go over $40 and have found two sets that look good. Just wondering which one would be preferable, I live in Perth, WA. If there are any other sets I should look at, especially Perth or Australia based, please tell me.
Here are the two I am looking at:

Thanks

These are good quality for the price and would suit the locks where you live better than many sets.

ALI Express has some good prices on lever lock tools if you have that kind where you live.

The only thing I would offer is to get a "euro" or "slim line" set like smokingman posted. I originally bought a standard US set, and felt limited by them very quickly.

The only reason I don't recommend slimlines as a starting point for lock picking is because a beginner will usually use too much tension. We all know that this causes cracks on the neck of the pick leading to broken picks.
