where do you get blank dimple keys

Postby ASSA » 25 Oct 2004 10:37

The foil impressioning of the dimple locks that Barry demonstrated was kinda interesting. I went down to my local locksmith and asked if i could have a copule of blanks. then he told me that bank keys for the dimple locks are simply not available to get.
Where did barry get his blank, or did he use a real key that he prepared?

the dimple lock i have and want to get a blank for is a kaba aura.

I have seen blanks for a number of dimple locks in some of my key blank catalogues. I have never ordered any & I don't know if there are any restrictions such as a being registered distributor of a particular make.

You don't need blanks, you need used keys. Buy some assorted mixes off of ebay if you can find them. Drill the holes down to their lowest setting, put a piece of foil around them, and insert into the lock. Thats the basic premise from what I understand.

ok, thanks. one question still remains.
as far as i could see, the key that barry put the tape on did now have
drilled holes in all pin positions, some holes where not drilled, and some were drilled less then the others. is this because barry had some idea of what the lock pins looked like or did i just not take a good enough look at the film clip?

What I think you do is drill the dimples to the max depth that is needed then use the tape so all you need is a old key that has been drilled.
I may be wrong. :)
